WEEK 4 - ISOLATION OF ORANGE

Craft: To create the isolation of this orange, I used multiple tools in photoshop. I used the magic wand tool which allowed me to eliminate objects in the background of the orange that were similar in color. I also used the lasso tool to trace the remainder of the orange. Lastly, I used the eraser tool to clean up the edges.

Concept: The concept of the image is simply to show something that is natural. As part of the class homework assignment I was told to take a picture of something that was man-made and something that was natural.

Composition: I wanted the viewers eye to look at the color change in the orange due to light. The top of the orange appears to be more of a yellow as oppose to an orange. I wanted the viewers eyes to immediately go to the yellow top and eventually move down the dark orange base.

WEEK 3 - COMMUNICATE A NOUN - 100 LINES

Craft: To create these drawings I used five pieces of white printer paper. I then began to create the outline of five different objects by drawing 100 horizontal lines with a black pen. Some lines were shorter and some were longer to create the outline of the object.

Concept: The concept of these images is the same as the drawing of the drinking vessel on my previous post. I wanted to show the simplicity of objects that we see and use every day. It's about seeing these everyday objects without the brands that label them.

Composition: When drawing theses objects, I wanted people to people to pay attention to emphasis that I made on the widest and the narrowest parts of each object. I drew some of the horizontal lines longer and some of the lines shorter to emphasize these parts.

WEEK 2 - COMMUNICATE A NOUN - LINES

Craft: To create my drinking vessel, I used the Adobe Photoshop application. While in Photoshop I used a wide tip paintbrush with black ink and a thin tip paintbrush with white ink. I first used long horizontal strokes with the wide brush to create the outline of the body of the drinking vessel and then short vertical strokes to outline the handle of the drinking vessel. After finishing the outline, I went through with the thin brush and created the features of the vessel.

Concept: The concept of this piece is to show the simplicity of the drinking vessel. The image shows a common drinking vessel that we may use on a daily basis in its most simple form.

Composition: I arranged the white lines in this image in a specific way to show the characteristics of the vessel. The circular white lines on the top left show the spout of the vessel, the white horizontal lines on the body show the grooves of the vessel, and the single white line on the handle emphasize the shape of the handle. I wanted the viewer's eyes to be immediately drawn to these white lines.
